The Liberty wreck, Tulamben, Bali, is a world class shore dive.   Just about thirty meters from a shore of lava rocks and 5 meters to 30 meters below is the sunken remains of a World War II freighter – the USAT Liberty.  Seventy years ago the Liberty was shipping materials to Australia across the Lombok Straits and she was torpedoed by a Japanese U-boat.  Taking on vast quantities of water, the Liberty was beached on Bali’s north eastern shore in Tulamben. A 1963 eruption of the Mount Agung volcano left the vessel in it’s present “just off shore” location, situated ideally for amazing marine life and adventurous divers.    Underwater video courtesy of Kriss Sieniawski, of www.divingbali.info.
